The Hungarian composer Béla Bartók (1881-1945) is considered one of the greatest composers of the 20th century and was also one of the founders of the field of ethnomusicology, through his analytical study and ethnography of folk music. Béla Bartók was born in the small Banatian town of Nagyszentmiklós in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, today Sânnicolau Mare, Timis county, Romania.
